Update Galaxy Nexus S I9020 To Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Using Slim Bean ROM
Even though Google has now halted updates for the Galaxy Nexus S, many different entities are capable of allowing the Samsung Galaxy S to be fully functional on the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 firmware. One such entity is the Slim Bean ROM which will allow you to use your device on the 4.2.2 firmware. The new firmware comes complete with all the functions and capabilities that are intended. However do know that upgrading your phone unofficially comes with a few risks and we are in no way responsible for any damage that may occur to your phone while following this tutorial!
With that in mind you will need to make sure of a few aspects which will lower the risk of bricking your device before we can start the actual upgrade process.
For starters you must make sure that you have a complete backup of all your relevant data, such as your text messages, contacts, apps and entertainment media. You can save all of your videos songs and apps to an external medium such as a USB or HDD.
Once your backup is completed you will also need to make sure you have the appropriate files downloaded, and apps installed to your smartphone for the upgrading process! First of all make sure that your Galaxy Nexus S has properly been rooted and also has a properly functioning ClockworkMOD (CWM) recovery. You must also make sure that USB Debugging is enabled on your device. Now you must continue on to download Download Slim Bean ROM with the link provided as well as the Google Apps app which you can download from the following link: http://goo.im/gapps.
Once all of these prerequisites have properly been met you can proceed to the actual upgrading process!
Upgrading your Galaxy Nexus S!
Follow these steps with the utmost of attention to make sure nothing goes wrong in the upgrading process
Step 1: Connect your device to your computer via USB cable and proceed to transfer the Android 4.2.2 ROM and Google Apps to your smartphone’s SD card root.
Step 2: Switch your phone to recovery mode which you can do by first turning off your device then while turning your device back on make sure you are holding the Volume up, Volume Down keys and the power button at the same time.
Step 3: Now follow the on-screen instructions and make your way to select the BOOTLOADER option and then enter into recovery.
Step 4: Now that you have entered ClockworkMOD recovery, you will need to first do a complete data wipe. Select the “Flash from SD card” option by holding the power key and let the formatting process commence.
Step 5: Now that your device has been flashed select the “Choose from SD card” option and navigate through the menu using the volume up and down keys to find the Android 4.2.2 ROM zip file you previously transferred to your SD card. Once found, select it using the power key and then the next screen will prompt you for confirmation. Confirm your selection and wait for the process to complete!
Step 6: Repeat step five to install Google Apps!
Step 7: Once all of the installations are complete, select the ++++Go Back option and then select the “reboot your device” option. The reboot process may take a few minutes so do not be alarmed, once your phone has properly been rebooted confirm your firmware upgrade by going into your Galaxy Nexus S’s about page!
If you have followed all the previous instructions properly your device should now be functioning properly on the Android Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware!
