Battle over eye-tracking technology between Samsung and LG
With the recent unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S4, LG had immediately accused Samsung for violating the eye-tracking patent that LG owned. Samsung readily denied the accusation stating that the methods and technology that were in used the Samsung Galaxy S4 were far different than the technology being used for the LG Optimus G Pro. Both of the smartphones will be going on sale in the upcoming months. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been revealed as the most powerful smartphone to be available for customers in the year of 2013.
The patent regarding LG’s accusation was applied for back in 2009, however LG claims that more patents have been violated by Samsung that date back to 2005. The Samsung Galaxy S 4 uses a Smart Pause eye tracking system while the LG Optimus G pro uses the Smart Video feature in its flagship. LG has stated that it will further investigate into Samsung’s patent activities in light of the new Smart Pause feature that Samsung announced for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
We can only wait and see what happens between the two rivals and whether or not this case over patents will be taken to court. This is a critical time for both companies considering the fact that both their flagships will be up for sale in the upcoming months.
