The Samsung Galaxy S2 is now also applicable to a Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware update. The Samsung Galaxy S2 was a great phone in it’s own time and it still is today. This custom build includes all of the features that are provided by the actual 4.2.2 firmware.
It should be well within your knowledge that updating your phone unofficially may result in malfunctions and even damage to your device. Hence any actions you take in updating your phone are in full your own responsibility.
Before starting the actual update process there are few thing precautions one must take. They are the following:
First and foremost you should ensure that all of the data on your phone has properly been backed up. By using the SMS and backup app, you can save all of your text messages, and you can save all your contacts to the gmail application. Furthermore you can save all of your entertainment media to an external hard drive, USB device or memory card.
After your data has properly been backed up, you must make certain that the USB debugging option has been activated on your device. You can do this by going to settings, then applications, then development then check the USB debugging box.
You must make sure that your smartphone has been optimally charged considering that if your device turns off in the middle of the updating process, malfunctions may occur. Lastly, your Samsung Galaxy S2 must be rooted on the firmware that you are currently using and ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery must also been installed.
Once all of the prerequisites have been met you can now begin the updating process to install the Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware to Samsung Galaxy S2.
To start the updating process you must download the Android 4.2.2 AOKP JB-MR1 Build 5 from here. You must also download the Google Apps package from here: http://goo.im/gapps/.
Once both files have been properly downloaded, connect your smartphone via USB cable to your computer and transfer the firmware files to your phone’s SD card. Make sure you transfer both files without extracting them.
Now you can unplug your device from your computer, and then proceed to turn off your mobile phone. Once your smartphone has shut down, you must activate the recovery mode. To activate the recovery mode, press the volume down, menu key, and power button at once. A green android will appear on your Samsung Galaxy S2’s screen to confirm that you have entered recovery mode.
In the CWM recovery menu, you must first format and wipe all the data from your smartphone. After that task has been completed use your volume up and down keys to navigate through the menu and find the “flash from zip file” option, you can select the option by pressing the power key. Once you have opened that option, you must select the Choose zip from SD card option. After having selected that option, find the Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware that you previously downloaded and select it. Once you have done this the installation process will occur and after it is completed, you must do the same to install the Google Apps package.
Now that both the 4.2.2 firmware and Google Apps package has been installed, navigate through the CWM recovery screen and find the Reboot system now option and select it. After your phone has rebooted you will have acquired the Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S2 if all the mentioned steps have properly been followed!
